Withnell, Chorley · Family run since 1998

Born and raised
on our own hill.

Our cattle, lamb, pigs and chickens are reared on moorland pasture here at Boardman Heights Farm. You can trace every pack back to the field it came from. Order ahead and pick a collection slot that suits you.

Our farm

A small family farm on the edge of the moor

We have been farming at Boardman Heights since 1998. It is not a big operation and we like it that way. The cattle are born here, they graze our moorland pasture through the summer, and they are finished slowly. Nothing arrives on a lorry from somewhere else.

When the time comes they travel a short distance to a local abattoir. A shorter journey means calmer animals, and calmer animals make better meat. Everything then comes back here to be hung, cut and packed by our own butcher, who has been doing it for more than twenty years.

That is the whole point of a farm shop. You can stand in the yard, look at the field, and know exactly where your Sunday joint came from.

Questions

Things people ask us

Why do the weights say “approx”?

Because a person cuts them, not a machine. A ribeye off one animal is never exactly the same size as a ribeye off the next, and we would rather cut a proper steak than trim a good one to hit a number on a label.

So here is the deal, plainly: the price you see online is the price you pay. The weight next to it is a close average, and your pack might come in a little over or a little under. The rate per kilo is shown so you can compare us with anyone else.

Do I pay when I order?

No. Ordering online just reserves your meat and your collection slot. You pay at the counter when you pick it up, by card or cash. Nothing is taken in advance.

How long will it keep?

Everything is vacuum packed in meal-sized portions. Sealed like that it keeps 21 days in the fridge, which surprises people. It also freezes well, so you can put the packs straight in the freezer as they come.

That is why the hampers work so well. A £60 hamper is at least 4kg, up to ten family meals, and you can split it across the fridge and the freezer without repacking anything.

Do you deliver?

No, we are collection only from the farm shop. It keeps the price down and it means we hand your order over ourselves.

Can I order lamb and chicken?

Yes. We have always sold both in the shop, and now you can order them ahead as well, same as the beef and pork.

What if I want something cut a particular way?

Ring us on 07825 605275 and ask. Thicker steaks, a joint boned and rolled, a whole side for the freezer, that sort of thing is no trouble if we know in advance.

What is Red Tractor Farm Assured?

It is an independent standard covering animal welfare, feed and traceability, checked by inspection rather than taken on trust. It means the story on this page is one somebody else has verified.
